Finalist Theories (Part 2)

The most predominant finalist theory in the world of computing is Utilitarianism.

Today is December 17, 2005. We’re still at the dawn of the 21st century. But see how wretched and wicked this world has become! Wherever you go, you will easily see that more people are desperate and too few (if at all) are satisfied with how their lives are going at the moment. It is because of this desperation and longing for the good and pleasurable items in life – for happiness – that many of us have turned from the noble to the less dignified ways of walking our lives.

Everyday, all of us make compromises for substandard means for getting on and staying on our feet. We all want to be happy, to lead good lives, but the world around us is just so corrupted that we often find ourselves trapped between the choices of whether we should do what we truly want to do or what the world allows us to do with the little that we have.

Yes, on the surface, Utilitarianism seems to be our basis for action. But I’d like to believe that within each one of us (in all of us) is the earnest desire to achieve the highest good – the supreme end, happiness – which I would say can only be gotten when a sense of one’s completeness is achieved.
